An Eye for Hygiene - Litter
Yes! Rabbits can be littertrained. Thats the very reason we encourage allowing littertrained rabbits to roam freely around the house for intermitten periods throughout the day or total free roam of the house just like cats and dogs.
There are many litter products in the market, however, do be extra careful about choosing the type of litter for your bunnies’ litterpan. Stay away from litter made of:
1) Softwoods like pine or cedar shavings and chips - these are known to cause liver damage in rabbits
2) Wheat and Corn Cob - they are often ingested by bunnies and as the primary material is wheat/corn, the carbohydrates level in them is very high. Ingestion of too much of wheat/corn will often lead to obesity, excessive cecal production, diarrhea and other health problems
3) Clumping Materials (e.g. clay-based cat litter) - this will clump inside a rabbit's digestive and respiratory tract, causing lethal blockage
We have a selection of natural and environmentally friendly products - all safe for rabbits and all have high absorbency and low dust characteristics - exactly what you need in a litter! They are environmentally sound too, as they can be composted.
